Coastal Roads & Sand Dune Landscapes
The tour begins in Tottori, home to some of Japan’s most unique natural landscapes. This first stage is designed as a relaxed warm-up ride along quiet coastal roads, traditional fishing villages, and the spectacular Tottori Sand Dunes, shaped over centuries by winds coming from the Sea of Japan. The dunes are part of the San’in Kaigan UNESCO Global Geopark, a coastline known for dramatic cliffs, volcanic formations, and hidden coves carved by the sea over millions of years.
Beyond its natural beauty, Tottori is also closely connected to Japanese manga culture. The prefecture is the birthplace of Gosho Aoyama, creator of Detective Conan, and visitors can discover manga-themed landmarks and references throughout the region. This combination of coastal scenery, rural atmosphere, and pop culture makes the first day a perfect introduction to the spirit of San’in.

Terrain — Mountain Roads & Rural Climbs
A deeper ride into rural Japan and the mountains of central Tottori.
Leaving the Sea of Japan behind, the route heads inland through the quiet mountains and countryside of central Tottori Prefecture. Secondary roads wind through forests, rice fields, rivers, and small rural villages rarely visited by international travelers, offering a more authentic and peaceful side of Japan. With over 1,000 meters of elevation gain, this is the first true climbing stage of the tour, but the scenery and silence of the region make every ascent rewarding.
The day finishes in Misasa Onsen, one of Japan’s most historic hot spring towns, famous for its radium-rich thermal waters believed to have healing properties. After a challenging ride, there is no better way to recover than soaking in a traditional outdoor bath and enjoying the atmosphere of a classic Japanese ryokan surrounded by mountains and rivers.

As the sea comes back into view, Mount Daisen dominates the horizon. Often called the «Fuji of Western Japan,» this sacred volcanic peak has been an important center of mountain worship for over a thousand years. The day ends in Kaike Onsen, a seaside hot spring town famous for its sandy beaches, ocean views, and exceptional seafood.
